Firstly for me no one puts down the feeling of actually dealing with anxiety and other mental & physical illness like John green

This book takes a little time to catch up but once it catches the pace it’s very tantalising

most of the time, we are inside Aza’s head, listening to swift and unsteady thoughts of this young girl dealing with OCD & severe mysophobia. The rational part of her,sees a therapist and fitfully takes medication, tries to talk herself down. But her mind is mostly in chaos

Unlike greens other girls she is more vulnerable but still have that quirky humor,

The other characters are Mychal Turner, an aspiring artist, and her best friend Daisy Ramirez, who writes Star Wars fan-fiction with whom she shares most things and had a brief drift.

The other character I really liked is the billionaire’s son Davis with whom Aza begin a relationship. There are other characters too but it’s a short review so….

This book has some really great relatable Quotes(too relatable to be honest) and that’s what I love about John green ,he just gets how the Mind of young adults works in situations and then throws them in to it and take us to their thoughts.

I did not cry in this like in the fault in her stars but I could feel my own anxiety towering during the read.

I love rupi Kaur, I #ship her, I have a very special place for Rupi Kaur’s poetry,I look up to her as an aspiring poet myself ,so I may be a little biased but I love this book,the way she puts her thoughts in to words and her artwork,

Some of the proses, I felt like they are exactly how I feel and somehow a woman living across the world has put down my feelings better than me!

Need I say more?

This book is divided into five sections reflecting the life cycle of a flower, with chapters titled: Wilting, Falling, Rooting, Rising, and Blooming.

Like her previous book It focuses on themes of love and loss, trauma and abuse, healing, femininity and the body positivity and loving yourself the way you are.

The part Wilting touches on the subject of heartbreak and loss.

Part Falling focuses on depressive feelings following the loss of an important relationship.

Part of Rooting explores topics of female infanticide which was major problem and we are still somewhat dealing with its effect in Asian countries ,other topics include immigration and borders.

And the final section Blooming addresses the joy Kaur finally found coming to love and accept her roots, herself, and the world around her.

leukoderma is a disease that causes the loss of skin colour in blotches it is also commonly known as vitiligo

It does affect a person physically but is still a big social stigma till date and especially for a young girl ,the protagonist Anupama suffers from it and her Cinderella story sort of life is crumbled down by it

She is left nothing but herself but eventually she deals with life and her situation like a boss

This is such a beautiful inspirational story and carries a very important social message

This book like other Sudha Murthy’s books uses a very simple language and has a very smooth flow and is an easy read for beginners

If you ask me top ten best books ,I have read till now in my lifetime ,I’ll name this book in one of those. It was a beautiful heartbreaking book, you’ll smile -you’ll cry but you’ll not put this book down.

It has a very special narration by death itself and therefore death seems less distant and threatening.

Through out the novel, there are deaths of prominent characters also the novel takes place during World War II, deaths and genocide are nearly omnipresent in the novel.

But Death narrates and explains the reasons behind each character’s destruction, as well as explains how he feels when he take the life of each character, and what more the characters could have done to have a better life in a way, all this give a sense of care rather than fear from death .At one point, Death states “even death has a heart,” which reaffirms that there is a care present in the concept of death and dying.

Apart from death I love the how literacy is used to mark the development of character arcs e.g.

In the beginning of the novel,liesel the main character obtains a book at her brother’s funeral, one that she is unable to read. As the story progresses, she slowly learns how to read and write because of the tutelage of her foster father Hans. At the end of the story, her character arc is heavily defined by her ability to read and write. The development of her literacy mirrors her physical growth and strength developing over the course of the story.

Language, reading, and writing also serve as social markers. The wealthy citizens in the story are often portrayed as owning their own libraries and being literate, while the poor characters are illiterate and do not own any books.

The Nazi burning of books is also represented in the novel. Symbolically, Liesel’s continuous rescue of the books the Nazis burn represents her reclaiming of freedom and fight against being controlled by the Nazis.

I also loved the relationship between the protagonist and her foster parents and the refugee max

The foster father Hans have a Loving relationship with Liesel, and becomes a main source of strength and support for her throughout the novel

The foster mother Rosa is written has a sore tounge woman but behind all that she is a very loving wife and mother

Liesel’s neighbor, Rudy, who ultimately become her best friend and eventually falls for her

And max the refugee in Hans house,later befriends Liesel, because of their shared affinity for words. He writes two books for her and presents her with a sketchbook that contains his life story, which helps Liesel to develop as a writer and reader, which, in turn, saves her life from the bombs.

To wind this year up i have chosen my favourite topic to talk about : Harry Potter, I’m a potter head since i was a child and saw my first potter movie in 2001-2002 I guess ,and I was blown away ,I couldn’t contain my excitement.  Later I started reading the books when i was told by some older friend that they are even better than the movies, and I started reading the books.

Our English literature teacher in school use to say that J.K. Rowling has done a wonderful thing she has made all the children “readers”, which I totally agree .Books can be such a wonderful thing I realised after harry potter and there was no going back from there.

Since then I discovered many great books but potter remained my first love and I come back to it again and again. But now I realise that it had much more than just a kid with magical powers.

As a child it gave me an escape and a sense of belonging but now as a pseudo-adult I realise it taught me many important things like

1. How important it is to be a good person and think about others
2. To study hard it pays you in ways you can never imagine
3. That girls are no less
4. To be there for your friends and family
5. To  love and to loose

Look at me rambling on internet on a book blog about a children’s book but if I haven’t read harry potter that day, I may have not been such a book nerd today and I think I owe a lot of bad nights gone good after a few pages or a few scenes. So to wrap this year up I just want to give a little dedication to my first love ���,

I know the urban Indian audience is not a fan of Ram and Ramayana & Sita is seen as a victim of gender oppression who loves a man and gets rejected and tested by him on the word of a peasant but this book will changed at least my view point.

It shows Sita in some other light e.g. a quote from the book is “He is God, he can abandon no one and I am Goddess, I cannot be abandoned by anyone” .

Here sita is not dependent on anyone for her living, she can manage own her own raise her kids and is not your average damsel in distress, it shows her intelligence, capabilities and protest in silence.

And I found many answers to the questions I had in my mind since I heard the stories from my elders and saw many versions of this saga on television as a child.

And like other Pattnaik’s books we also find reasons behind many Indian rituals through the short stories in between. They are like connecting dots to this huge constellation & re-telling and narratives of the Ramayana from different regions across India and outside India are at the end of each chapter which gives it extra brownie points, Plus the art is also very good and is by the man himself.

I think it is a very good book if you are in to Indian mythology and to read with your puja-path vali mommies and grannies, I actually read it with my mother and sissy .
